Moving and Handling
Moving and Handling
Some of the children and young people we work with have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), these children and young people often require the use of mobility aids and equipment, along with adult support and specialist services within educational settings.
The IPaSS Senior Moving and Handling Advisor supports the staff working with these children and young people with all aspects of moving and handling manoeuvres, equipment and planning to ensure they are using appropriate working practices to keep everyone safe. As part of this support and guidance, IPaSS offers regular moving and handling courses to provide in-depth information regarding legislation and guidance, body structure, recommended techniques, understanding disability and Fire Evacuation guidance. Follow up work in settings develops specific plans for supporting any moving and handling requirements, with regular input to refresh learning and respond to changes in young people’s needs or changes of staff.
In addition, IPaSS supports settings with evacuation planning, including equipment advice, help with the development of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP’s) and staff training to ensure everyone can manage the plans safely and effectively, reducing risks.
