The Support Service for Deaf Children

Preschool

The IPaSS Preschool group for deaf children runs fortnightly at Fenchurch children’s centre for deaf/ hard of hearing babies from birth up until school age. Siblings and family members are welcome. The group gives families the opportunity to meet each other and talk through their experiences. We centre each session around a topic and include singing, play and messy play. An IPaSS Deaf Instructor teaches British Sign language (BSL) signs related to the weekly topic. We also have access to and play in the sensory room. The aim of the group is to develop language and communication skills. Qualified Teachers of the Deaf check the children’s hearing aids and other hearing technologies. Parents/carers can also voice any achievements/concerns with Qualified Teachers of the Deaf.

In the summer ter the NDCS came to Hull to deliver their REAL project. We celebrated the end of the term with a summer picnic. You can see the video here.
